16. Graduation
16.1 Conditions for Graduation
A student is eligible to graduate from the program he/she is registered in when all the following criteria have been met:
- All the requirements of the program, as prescribed by Seneca College, have been completed in a satisfactory and timely manner.
- The student has been recommended to graduate by the Promotion Committee.
- The recommendation for graduate status has been approved by the President and the Board of Governors of Seneca College.
Students must have successfully completed the requirements of the program in effect at the time of the request to graduate unless alternate arrangements have been approved in writing by the Chair or designate.
To meet program conditions and graduate, students who interrupt their studies for an extended period of time, or who take significantly longer than the normally prescribed program duration to complete their studies, may be required to take additional subjects and/or repeat subjects which have gone through significant change.
16.2 Programs No Longer Offered
Students who have interrupted their studies will not be eligible to graduate from a program that is no longer offered by the College.
16.3 Non-Attendance at Graduation Ceremony
Degrees, diplomas and certificates are awarded to students at Convocation. If a graduating student is absent from the ceremony the diploma or certificate is awarded "in absentia" and may be obtained from the Registrar's Office following Convocation. All degrees, diplomas and certificates not claimed within a six month period following Convocation are destroyed.
16.4 Honours/High Honours Designation
When a student graduates a special comment may be entered on the right-hand side of the transcript to indicate:
| Honours: | Cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.55 to 3.94 (3.0 to 3.44 prior to September 2000) |

| High Honours: | Cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.95 to 4.00 (3.45 to 4.0 prior to September 2000) |
16.5 Grade Point Average (GPA) Calculation
Where appropriate the GPA is reported in two ways at the bottom of the transcript, “CURRENT” for each semester the student was enrolled and “TO DATE”, indicating cumulative for all semesters the student was enrolled. All subjects graded A+; A; B+; B; C+; C; D; F; or DNA (except those listed below the “Non-Applicable to Current Program” line) are included in the GPA calculation. Other grades are not included.
As outlined in the following example, the GPA is calculated by dividing the total grade points earned by the units of credits attempted.
