Seneca adds two Bachelor of Commerce degree programs

Toronto, March 28, 2012 – Seneca is adding Bachelor of Commerce degrees in Business Management and International Business Management to its already diverse mix of business degrees.

“Seneca’s business programs have always excelled due to our dedicated faculty, their industry experience and our strong connections to the world of commerce,” says David Agnew, Seneca President. “We are delighted to offer two new commerce degrees that build on those strengths. They are leading-edge programs created with expert industry input and our graduates will leave Seneca with the academic requirements for important industry certifications.”

The Bachelor of Commerce (Business Management) degree includes courses specific to the needs of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs), business management professionals, including Management for Non-profit and social enterprises, Sustainability, Leadership and Business Finance. Canada's SMEs employ more people and generate more economic activity than any other sector and market-ready graduates will be well prepared for careers such as product man¬agers, project leaders, management and to start their own business or contribute to the family’s business.

The Bachelor of Commerce (International Business Management) degree prepares graduates for careers in procurement and sales marketing for multi-national organizations. The Bachelor of Commerce (International Business Management) degree includes courses designed to prepare graduates to be International Business Managers, including Global Sourcing and Procurement, International Law and Tariffs, and Operations Management. Graduates with specialized skills and knowledge in international business strategy will find careers in all areas of business within multi-national companies, such as, purchasing managers, accounts managers, logistics managers, buyers, business analysts, and project managers.

Graduates of the new degrees will have met the academic requirements for certification with the Canadian Institute of Management.

“Each of these Bachelor of Commerce degrees meets the rigorous academic requirements for Certified in Management (C.I.M.) and Professional Manager (P.Mgr.) certification with the Canadian Institute of Management,” said Dr. Matthew Jelavic, National Vice-President, Education with the Canadian Institute of Management. “This speaks volumes about the quality of these degrees and their requirements and learning outcomes.”

After two years of verified managerial work experience graduates will be eligible for the C.I.M. designation and the P.Mgr. designation after five years of experience.

Graduates of these degrees will also be eligible for further certification from SAP Canada, the Project Management Institute, and the Canadian Institute of Management.

In addition, graduates of the Bachelor of Commerce (Business Management) degree will be eligible for further certification from the Canadian Professional Sales Association, and graduates of the Bachelor of Commerce (International Business Management) will also be eligible for further certification from the Forum for International Trade Training.
