ACT351 - Acting for Animators

The focus of this course is to create a working knowledge that is fully applicable to the realities of working in the animation industry.  Focus is given to analysis of their own and other student?s work. Using film examples, both live action and animation, students will study the good, the bad and the embarrassing to create characters, and scenes that are moving and connected to an audience.

ANI101 - Animation Principles

In this subject the student will explore the basic principles of animation and movement through a series of practical assignments. The principles will include squash and stretch, timing and motion, anticipation, action, reaction, overlapping action, slo-in and slo-out, arcs, exaggeration, appeal, timing charts and exposure sheets. MAY721 - Modeling

In this subject the student will be introduced to the principles involved in modeling in Maya. A variety of modeling techniques and surface types, including polygons, nurbs, and sub-d's will be explored. Students will create a series of models culminating with the creation of characters, props and environments for their final production.

MAY724 - Animation Tools

This course teaches the tools and principles necessary to create advanced motion for characters, cameras, and objects in Maya software.

MAY730 - Basic Rigging

In this subject the student will be introduced to the principles involved in rigging in Maya. A variety of rigging techniques and tools will be explored. Students will create a simple character rig as well as bind/skin geometry to that rig.

MAY740 - Textures and Rendering

In this course the student will be introduced to the principles involved in lighting, texturing and rendering in Maya. Emphasis will be placed on creating proper polygonal UV layouts and on creating photo-real renderings. Only Maya lights, materials and the software render will be used during this course.

MGL102 - Life Drawing I

This course will provide the student with a sound knowledge of observational drawing skills. Its primary focus will be structural drawing, which will introduce students to human anatomy. For the length of the course, a portion of every class will be devoted to gesture drawing followed by a short anatomy lecture on various areas of the skeleton. Joint articulation will be stressed. There will also be a brief discussion on the dynamics of structural drawing, which will be assisted by historical images.

STR121 - Storyboarding - Film Principles

In this subject, the student will be introduced to the various cameras in Maya and how they function.
In addition, the student will learn about how the Maya camera resembles live action cameras in terms of depth of field, focus and motion blur. The student will see examples from films to demonstrate concepts like time compression, time expansion, various types of camera moves, cutting on action, etc. The student will perform a series of exercises with the Maya cameras and will storyboard and pre-visualize an animation based on content supplied by the instructor.
