CAP500 - Career Planning

This subject is designed to prepare students with the knowledge and transferable skills required to assist in a successful career launch in the global business sector. In addition to exploring the skills and qualities essential to obtain a position in their chosen career, students will prepare a career development campaign which will consist of resumes and cover letters, practise interviews and follow-up techniques. The importance of ethics and etiquette in the workplace will also be discussed. Both traditional and on-line methodologies will be integrated throughout the course.

EBM630 - Taxation for Entrepreneurs

This subject will give the entrepreneur a greater awareness of some of the principles and concepts of the Income Tax Act and related statutes.  Particular emphasis will be placed on self-employed income as well as the expenses and taxes payable by a small business owner.  Some of the topics to be discussed will include personal taxation, corporate taxation, and the Harmonized Sales Tax (HST).

Small business owners regularly face a variety of problems and opportunities in the finance, marketing, operations, human resources and management areas of their business. This subject engages students in business problems and opportunities, the analysis of such, and the development of sound strategies to deal with the situations.

EBM660 - Venture Practicum

Participating in teams, students will apply the knowledge and skills gained in previous courses as co-managers of companies competing against ventures managed by their peers. Through on-line activities, students will develop practical skills for modifying their strategies across all functional areas of their ventures, in response to ever-changing market conditions over several simulated time periods.

MGS522 - Negotiation Strategies for Business

Being able to negotiate effectively is a key skill for all business people. This course is designed to help students develop negotiating skills by becoming familiar with theoretical, ethical and practical issues. Negotiating requires an understanding of how psychological theory applies to interpersonal communication, application of such knowledge to develop negotiating strategies and practice using negotiating framework. Students will become familiar with using a principled negotiation approach.
