CAP500 - Career Planning

This subject is designed to prepare students with the knowledge and transferable skills required to assist in a successful career launch in the global business sector. In addition to exploring the skills and qualities essential to obtain a position in their chosen career, students will prepare a career development campaign which will consist of resumes and cover letters, practise interviews and follow-up techniques. The importance of ethics and etiquette in the workplace will also be discussed. Both traditional and on-line methodologies will be integrated throughout the course.

ERP500 - Enterprise Resource Planning

Enterprise Resource Planning is a framework for organizing, defining and standardizing the business processes.  This is necessary for effective planning and control of the organization to better utilize its resources and knowledge to obtain a competitive advantage.  ERP500 will introduce the student to Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP). The course will provide an overview of what an ERP system is and why and how it can benefit a company. It will familiarize students with the concepts, logic, techniques and terminology of ERP. The course combines theory with group computer lab work utilizing a state of the art ERP system technology (SAP R/3). Due to the broad nature of this subject, the course will not cover all elements of ERP.

MGS522 - Negotiation Strategies for Business

Being able to negotiate effectively is a key skill for all business people. This course is designed to help students develop negotiating skills by becoming familiar with theoretical, ethical and practical issues. Negotiating requires an understanding of how psychological theory applies to interpersonal communication, application of such knowledge to develop negotiating strategies and practice using negotiating framework. Students will become familiar with using a principled negotiation approach.

OPM510 - Total Quality Management

OPM510 introduces the student to Total Quality Management (TQM) including the important management process and set of disciplines that are coordinated to ensure that the organization consistently meets or exceeds customer requirements. TQM companies are focused on the systematic management of data in all processes to eliminate waste and pursue continuous improvement. Due to the broad nature of TQM, this subject cannot cover all elements of TQM.

OPM620 - Advanced Purchasing and Materials Management

OPM620 is a continuation of OPM600 - Purchasing and Materials Management. Global Sourcing as well as other advanced topics in procurement are covered. Cost analysis and negotiation, procurement of services, capital equipment acquisition and Green purchasing are key topics that todays procurement professional must be prepared to navigate. Supply partnerships and supplier development are key themes in this course.
