This hybrid course reviews the essentials of Marketing and transferable skills acquired during the three year program. Students develop professional portfolios that include examples of course work. Career strategies include research, networking, job search, interview skills, support systems and professional development plans. Profiles of employers and successful graduates provide "real world" case studies.

This course introduces students to the basic formats and principles of business communications. It emphasizes the analysis of audience, purpose, and message. It gives students the opportunity to practice these formats and principles in a variety of situations commonly encountered at work.

MRK317 - Integrated Marketing Communications I

This course will introduce key marketing concepts related to the promotions mix in an IMC (Integrated Marketing Communications) framework. Students will be introduced to the foundation of IMC and communication concepts specifically as they relate to influencing consumer behaviour. This course focuses on advertising as part of the promotional mix and explores creative approaches and media alternatives, including the internet and social media options, needed to prepare and justify different marketing communication approaches to create brand interest and ultimately brand loyalty. The advantages, pricing, and measurements of different types of media will also be explored.

MRK430 - Professional Selling

A career in selling can focus on either business to business or retail sales. This subject deals primarily with business to business selling in which students will learn and practice the fundamentals of the sales process, needs analysis, consultative selling and relationship building. Students will develop interactive selling skills through presentations and self evaluation. Emphasis will be on developing confidence, professionalism and communication skills required in today's world. This subject is offered in conjunction with the Canadian Professional Sales Association (CPSA). It is an educational requirement for the Certified Sales Professional (CSP) designation that additionally requires two years work experience in sales and successful completion of examinations, oral and written. It also meets the educational requirement for the certificate program, Professional Sales Certificate (PSC).

QNM225 - Quantitative Decision Management for Business

This course develops decision management skills for business using quantitative data analysis. We start with a traditional introduction to statistics to collect, analyze, present, and interpret quantitative data. This is not just a statistics course. We also introduce new technologies and methods such as data science, business intelligence, and data analytics to improve critical decision-making skills to solve common business problems. We cover critical thinking, estimation, forecasting, prediction, modeling, sensitivity analysis, multiple regression, model optimization, risk analysis, and goal seeking. Students write reports communicating recommendations to senior management from their quantitative analysis. A computer is mandatory.
