ECE447 - Integrative Seminar: Child, Family and Community

ECE 447 examines the relationship between the child, family, school and community. Special emphasis will be placed on the influence of ethnic and racial background, socio-economic status, gender, and individual differences as they impact on the development of personal identity.Students will explore their own attitudes, beliefs and values as they are shaped by their particular life circumstances and become aware of how these impact on themselves as Early Childhood Educators.The history of family and child care will also be examined.

ECY303 - Infant and Toddler Skills

This is a methodology subject which helps students apply theories of child development to skills in child care, communication, programming, administration and evaluation appropriate for children under thirty months of age. Students will complete approximately ninety hours of field practice in an infant-toddler placement over the course of one entire semester. To pass this subject, students must pass EFP 303.

ECY402 - Psychology - The Child with Special Needs II

In ECY 402, students will learn how to adapt an early childhood curriculum to enable the integration of children with special needs. They will discuss strategies for working effectively with parents and community services

ECY411 - Advanced Curriculum Seminar

In ECY 411 students will learn techniques for long term program planning and evaluation of programs.

ECY443 - Administration of Early Childhood Education Centre

ECY 443 deals with the role of the teacher as an administrator. The following aspects of preschool administration are discussed: community agencies and resources; licensing and legislation; budgeting; keeping records; and setting up and equipping a centre.

EFP303 - Infant and Toddler Field Placement

For one day per week throughout the semester students will apply theories and ideas discussed in ECY 303. Students must pass ECY 303 to pass this subject.

EFP440 - Second Year Field Placement

For two half-days a week throughout the semester, students will demonstrate the skills associated with 4th semester field placements. Students may take a field placement with children with special needs, in lieu of one other field placement in Semester IV (with preschool children).Co-requisite: ECY 411
