Subject Title
Field Placement I for Library and Information Technicians
Subject Description
Students are required to complete field placement to apply the theory and skills they have learned in semesters one and two and to gain work experience. A typing speed of 30 w.p.m. (net) is required.
Credit Status
This is a credit subject applicable towards the Library and Information Technician Diploma Program in the School of Legal and Public Administration and the Faculty of Continuing Education and Training. It is the first of three 70 hour field placements that students must complete to graduate from the program.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject the student will be able to:
1. Perform tasks reflecting the student's progress in the Library and Information Technician Program to date.
2. Perform tasks reflective of a specific type of library.
3. Work under the supervision of a librarian.
4. Demonstrate professionalism and appropriate work habits and attitudes.
5. Describe the collections, services, facilities and operations of the field placement.
6. Discuss the work experience in terms of the student's professional development.
ESSENTIAL EMPLOYABILITY
Upon successful completion of this subject the student will be able to:
