GRA610 - Graphic Design V

Graphic Design is an integral part of our society and we, as designers, must strive to create designs that communicates the client's message with originality. This course will emphasize the students' ability based on a series on specialized projects. Students will participate in cooperative ventures within the School of Communication Arts and with external NGO, and not-for-profit agencies. The ethical mandate for this course is to develop the young designers sense of doing good, not just good design.

GRA612 - Current and Future Trends

This course will identify and investigate current trends leading to future directions in graphic design. Students will learn how these trends affect technology, business, people, culture and policy. Students will focus and explore a significant or emerging area in visual communications through in-class exercises, projects and presentations.

GRA692 - Business of Design

Students will learn about Canada's visual communications industry; large and medium firms, boutique studios, partnerships and cross-disciplines. Students will learn how to start a freelance company, develop a business plan, and utilize successful promotion strategies. Estimating, invoicing, and financing will be reviewed in detail. This course will also examine entrepreneurship and strategies for successful start-ups.

GRA691 - Professional Practices

Introduction to the business of design, design marketplace analysis, and design practice communication. Students will become familiar with business trends in the local market and the practices and procedures in graphic design studios and art departments. Students will learn about the professional society for graphic designers and the responsibilities of practicing as a registered graphic designer in Ontario.

FPL600 - Field Placement

Students are required to gain practical experience in the fashion industry through paid or volunteer work placement. In their final year of study, they must achieve a minimum of 60 hours of placement in a non-store area of the fashion industry.

GRA600 - In-Studio Practicum

Offered for those students who do not qualify for Field Placement. This course provides students with an opportunity to participate in an in-class studio environment supervised by a creative director. Students will attend client briefings, create, present and produce design solutions for various clients. Students will also be required to maintain timesheets and manage dockets for all projects.
