Subject Title
Acquiring Library Materials I
Subject Description
This subject introduces the practices used by libraries when acquiring print materials for their collections. The focus is on buying books, subscribing to serials and acquiring government documents.
Credit Status
This is a credit subject towards the Library and Information Technician Diploma program offered through the School of Legal and Public Administration and the Faculty of Continuing Eduction.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject the student will be able to:
1. Complete record keeping for acquisitions.
2. Maintain fund accounts.
3. Use standard acquisitions tools.
4. Choose appropriate vendors for purchase orders.
5. Solve receipt and payment problems.
6. Check-in and route serials.
7. Order Canadian and Ontario government publications.
8. Demonstrate an attitude of professionalism, as evidenced by an ability to meet deadlines, complete assignments and perform tests and in-class assignments as scheduled.
