Searching II
Subject Description
This subject continues the searching of general periodical databases and library catalogues, with the addition of web searching using search engines. It focuses on efficiently and effectively finding information about topics.
Credit Status
This is a credit subject towards the Library and Information Technician Diploma program offered through the School of Legal and Public Administration and the Faculty of Continuing Education.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject the student will be able to:
1. Select search tools to locate information.
2. Identify controlled vocabularies and alternatives, and their features.
3. Use features of a controlled vocabulary when searching for information in a database.
4. Prepare to search for information about a topic.
5. Use various search strategies when searching for information about a topic.
6. Demonstrate an attitude of professionalism, as evidenced by an ability to meet deadlines, complete assignments and perform tests and in-class assignments as scheduled.
