This subject focuses on the creation and review of products for library promotion. Some of the products covered include displays and exhibits, handouts and bookmarks, and web pages.
This is a credit subject towards the Library and Information Technician Diploma program offered through the School of Legal and Public Administration and the Faculty of Continuing Education.
Upon successful completion of this subject the student will be able to:
1. Create promotional materials appropriate to type of library and activity.
2. Apply elements of design to promotional products.
3. Create displays, bookmarks, notices, simple newsletters and other promotional materials.
4. Participate effectively in a group when creating promotional products.
5. Evaluate the quality and appropriateness of various promotional products.
6. Create basic web pages.
7. Use some Web 2.0 tools.
8. Discuss the principles and techniques of library promotion.
9. Demonstrate an attitude of professionalism, as evidenced by an ability to meet deadlines, complete assignments and perform tests and in-class assignments as scheduled.
1. Communicate clearly, concisely and correctly in the written, spoken, visual forms that fulfills the purpose and the needs of the audience.
2. Respond to written, spoken, or visual messages in a manner that ensures effective communication.
3. Apply a systematic approach to solve problems.
4. Use a variety of thinking skills to anticipate and solve problems.
5. Locate, select, organize, and document information using appropriate technology and information systems.
6. Analyze, evaluate, and apply relevant information from a variety of sources.
7. Show respect for the diverse opinions, values, belief systems and contributions of others.
8. Interact with others in groups or teams in ways that contribute to effective working relationships and the achievement of goals.
9. Manage the use of time and other resources to complete projects.
10. Take responsibility for one?s own actions, decisions, and consequences.
