Reference Resources II

Subject Description
Students continue to select and use resources for responding to reference requests. Their learning is focused on legal and health resources, as well as other subject areas.

Credit Status
This is a credit subject towards the Library and Information Technician Diploma program offered through the School of Legal and Public Administration and the Faculty of Continuing Education.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject the student will be able to:

1. Provide an overview of legislation and case law in Canada.

2. Use sources to find Ontario and Canadian bills, statutes and regulations.

3. Locate legislation and legal cases based on citation information.

4. Locate health information for consumers using prominent reference resources.

5. Locate literary information using prominent reference resources.

6. Demonstrate an attitude of professionalism, as evidenced by an ability to meet deadlines, complete assignments and perform tests and in-class assignments as scheduled.

ESSENTIAL EMPOLYABILITY

Upon successful completion of this subject the student will be able to:

1. Communicate clearly, concisely and correctly in the written, spoken, visual forms that fulfills the purpose and the needs of the audience.

2. Respond to written, spoken, or visual messages in a manner that ensures effective communication.

3. Apply a systematic approach to solve problems.

4. Use a variety of thinking skills to anticipate and solve problems.

5. Locate, select, organize, and document information using appropriate technology and information systems.

6. Analyze, evaluate, and apply relevant information from a variety of sources.

7. Manage the use of time and other resources to complete projects.

8. Take responsibility for one's own actions, decisions, and consequences.
