New Dean of Students announced

Chris McGrath is the new Dean of Students.

Chris comes to Seneca with more than 13 years experience as a leader in student services. He is currently with the University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM) where he has served as Assistant Dean of Student Affairs as well as Director of Student Housing and Residence Life.

Previously, he has held positions with Simon Fraser University, the University of Vermont and the Georgia Institute of Technology.

During his time at UTM, he oversaw the extensive growth and expansion of student support services including the development and implementation of award-winning first year experience programs, expansion of student residences, development of localized supports for international students, and extensive campus-wide outreach and support for students facing personal difficulty and crisis. Chris was also active in university-wide committees and governing bodies focusing on the institution’s priority of enhancing student learning and engagement.

Recognized as an innovative thinker and creative practitioner, Chris holds a Master of Education degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs Administration from the University of Vermont, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in French Literature from the University of Waterloo. He is active in his professional community, currently serving as the President of the Canadian Association of College and University Student Services. He is also involved in various volunteer capacities with non-profit agencies in the Greater Toronto Area.

“I am thrilled to be joining the team at Seneca as it embarks on its mission to become the best college in the province,” says Chris. “Putting students first has been at the heart of my work throughout my career, and I am invigorated by working at Seneca where this same philosophy will guide the College in the years ahead.”

Chris will start at Seneca on April 18.
