The advisory board of Seneca’s Confucius Institute is comprised of three members appointed by Seneca College and two members to be appointed by Northeast Normal University.
Helen (Au) Hayward
Ms. Hayward is a Partner with Western Management Consultants, a Canadian consulting firm with offices in Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton. As a management consultant, she has advised clients in public, non-profit and private sectors on organizational effectiveness, governance, strategic planning and leadership development. Prior to consulting, Ms. Hayward held executive management roles in the Ontario government and in the private sector. Ms. Hayward actively volunteers at a number of not for profit boards. She is the immediate past Chair of the Seneca College Board of Governors. Currently, she serves on the Board of the Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. She also serves as the Chair of the CEO Search Committee and past Chair of the Board of Directors for the Yee Hong Centre for Geriatric Care, member of the Yee Hong Wellness Foundation. In 2010, she served on the York Region Hospital Community Nomination Committee to recommend a new slate of board members.
Professor Li joined Osgoode Law School in 1999, after teaching for eight years in the Faculty of Law at the University of Western Ontario. She was also a Visiting Scholar at Harvard Law School, a Greenwoods and Freehills Visiting Professor of International Taxation at the University of Sydney, Australia, and a Visiting Professor at Kenneth Wang Law School, Suzhou University, China. A leading expert and educator on tax law and Chinese tax reforms, Professor Li has served as a legal consultant to the International Monetary Fund, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, the Auditor General of Canada, the Department of Justice of Canada, as well as several leading law firms. She was also a member of an advisory committee for the Minister of National Revenue on the issue of e-commerce taxation. In 2004, she won the teaching excellence award at Osgoode. In 1999, she received the Douglas J. Sherbaniuk Distinguished Writing Award. In 2009, Professor Li served as the Interim Dean of the Osgoode Law School. Professor Li received the Canadian Association of Law Teachers Achievement Award in 2007, the Chinese Canadian Legend Award in 2010, the CPAC Achievement Award in 2009, and the FCCP Education Foundation 2009 Award of Merit.
Mr. Ng is the President of Samtack Inc., a member of the international Pine Technology Holding Ltd. listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. It is a global computer company with offices throughout Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Netherlands, China, Hong Kong and Taiwan with manufacturing facilities in China and Canada. Mr. Ng migrated to Canada in 1991 from Malaysia. In 2005, he won the Association of Chinese Canadian Entrepreneurs, “Entrepreneur of the Year Award.” Mr. Ng has served as President, Vice-President for Association Development and Chair of the Winners Club of the Association of Chinese Canadian Entrepreneurs. He is a current board member of the Toronto Board of Trade. He has been recognized with the 2011 “Top 25 Canadian Immigrants” award and the Immigrant Success Award from the Toronto Region Immigrant Employment Council. Mr. Ng is also an advisory board member for the Markham Small Business Enterprise Centre and from 2008 to 2011 he was Co-chair and founding member of the Chi Heng Foundation Canada (Charity).
Mr. Liu is the Vice-President of Northeast Normal University. Prior to his appointment as Vice-President, Mr. Liu served as an Associate Professor and Professor in the university’s School of Physics. His academic credentials include a master’s degree and doctoral degree from the School of National Science Academy (Changchun, China). Mr. Liu also holds post-doctoral degrees from Kyushu University and Jilin University. Throughout his prestigious academic career, Mr. Liu has won several awards including the National Exemplary Teacher award and was selected to the One Hundred Scholar Program.
Mr. Zhao is the Director of the International Office at Northeast Normal University. Prior to his appointment as Director, Mr. Zhao served as a faculty member at the university and has also served as a visiting scholar at Reading University in Britain. His academic credentials include a bachelor’s and master’s degree from the School of Foreign Languages at Northeast Normal University.
