Program Description

The Accounting (ACC) program provides you with a sound knowledge of accounting practice and related technology applications, and prepares you with skills to work immediately after graduation.

Qualified ACC graduates can take a one semester transition program and go directly into year 3 of Seneca's Bachelor of Commerce - International Accounting & Finance (IAF)*. Seneca's IAF degree includes equivalencies for all twelve modules of the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) Prerequisite Educational Program (PREP).

You’ll benefit from courses delivered using hands–on computer applications, including extensive use of Microsoft Excel spreadsheets and Access relational database management software. You’ll also be encouraged to combine your program of study with meaningful summer work experience.

ACC will introduce you to the modern technological environment of business decisions using a mid–level accounting software of an ERP system (e.g. MS Business Dynamics) and an entry–level accounting software (e.g. Simply Accounting).

For post-secondary students considering the pursuit of a professional accounting designation, this program currently provides the opportunity to obtain transfer credit toward the CGA designation through CGA Ontario:

Information provided on our website is that which is in effect at the time of writing. Students should be aware that the recognized professional accounting bodies in Ontario are undergoing unification negotiations which may continue to result in a number of significant changes to the qualification processes and requirements for these professional designations. Students interested in pursuing a professional accounting designation are advised to check with the relevant accounting body website and to continue to check these websites on a regular basis for updates.

"In partnering with Seneca College we looked to Seneca accounting students to fill some of our staffing vacancies. Not only was the response incredible by the number of applications received, but the students already had the job skills we were looking for and were able to fit into our organization with very little additional training."
