Bioinformatics is the application of computer technology to the management of biological information and is used to address biological problems. Bioinformatics is essential in examining how raw sequence data from genome sequencing projects can be used to generate information about gene function, protein structure, molecular evolution, drug targets and disease mechanisms. This emerging field requires individuals with multi-disciplinary background in biology and computer science. This program is designed to meet the increased demand for trained Bioinformatics professionals, by providing further training for people holding a university degree or 3 year college diploma in biotechnology (or biotechnology related program). This program will provide specific training in the area of Bioinformatics, with a focus on:
All students are required to follow guidelines, policies and procedures set down by the School of Biological Sciences and Applied Chemistry
