The Business - Insurance program is designed to satisfy the professional labour needs of the dynamic property and casualty (general) insurance industry in Canada. Offered in co-operation with the Insurance Institute of Canada (IIC), this program is anchored on the fundamental aspects of business and insurance, covering broad business principles and practices, as well as specialized disciplines within property and casualty insurance. It focuses on claims, brokerage and underwriting where career prospects are strong. Graduates of this program will earn credits toward the internationally recognized Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation. Students must register for IIC courses/exams at an additional cost.
Program Eligibility:
Graduates will be equipped with the knowledge and skills essential for an understanding of the property and casualty insurance industry in Canada. Graduates will earn up to 8 credits toward the CIP designation from the Insurance Institute of Canada. They will be prepared for progressive careers in claims, underwriting and brokerage.
The core curriculum is anchored on thirteen business courses and three General Education elective courses offered through the Faculty of Business. This allows for articulation into the BIN program by students with credits earned from other Seneca Schools of Business (Marketing and e-Business, International Business, Accounting and Financial Services, Business Management). Also integral to the program are eight insurance courses that are part of the curriculum established by the IIC for the internationally recognized Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) accreditation. Students in the two-year Seneca program will earn credits toward the CIP designation, which they would complete after one year of work experience at an insurance company or a brokerage firm, following graduation from Seneca, and two final CIP courses taken through the IIC. Business - Insurance students enrol in CIP examinations at an additional cost.
