Program Code:DMA
Campus:Seneca@York
Duration:4 Semesters (2 Years)
Start Dates:Summer, Fall, Winter,
Start dates are subject to change
Credential Awarded:Ontario College Diploma

Program Description

Over the four semesters of the program, your studies will focus on the design, implementation and management of digital graphics, animation, video and audio for interactive multimedia applications, including applications for the Internet.

You’ll be especially well suited for the DMA program if you enjoy all aspects of visual art creation and are both technical and visually talented.

You’ll learn to plan, develop, and design effective visual and audio communication materials for digital delivery on multiple operating systems.

You’ll also apply your creative and artistic skills toward practical purposes such as content creation for the web, social media, marketing and advertising campaigns, new media, television graphics, and special effects and animation for the film, TV and advertising industries. In your second year, you’ll benefit from experience with digital compositing, High–Definition and editing, using advanced technology and high–end equipment.

Because an independent project or real industry experience can be instrumental to your career success, you’ll have the opportunity to choose one in your final semester.

Admission Requirements

Program Eligibility:

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma with a majority of senior credits at the College Preparation (C), University Preparation (U) or University/College Preparation (M) level or Mature Student Status (age 19 or older)
  • Grade 12 English: ENG4(C) or ENG4(U)

Applicant Selection:

  • Applicant selection is a two–step process. In Step 1, academic achievement (i.e. grades in pre–requisite subjects and/or scores in English and Reading Achievement Tests) and demonstration of written communication skills via academic achievement or written test will be used to select applicants who are eligible for Step 2. The second step will require attendance at an orientation session and the completion of a visual communication and aptitude test. Applicants who are unsuccessful in Step 1 will be notified by mail, and will not be included in Step 2 of the selection process.

Note: Although not required for admission, art and computer science credits and ownership of a Pentium–Based (PC) or Apple Macintosh (MAC) computer system is highly recommended.

The Importance of Learning Skills:

Student success in college requires well developed learning skills (such as being able to work independently, participate in a team, be well–organized, develop good work habits, and show initiative). These skills are as important as prior academic achievement. While it is expected that applicants would have developed these skills through previous education and life experiences, Seneca offers support to assist students with further development of these important skills. Seminars, workshops and tutoring are available at Seneca's Learning Centres.
