Electronics Engineering Technician

Gain a solid background in the fundamentals of modern electronics, both analog and digital, combined with a foundation in computer technology. The EEN program provides you with a high proportion of relevant hands-on laboratory work to give you the practical experience that the electronics industry values.
Areas of Study
You’ll study such topics as electronic devices and circuitry, microcontroller-based circuits, diagnostic techniques and computer programming, with enough of a theoretical foundation to allow for future professional or academic progression. During the final year of the program, you’ll specialize in one or more areas of electronics and computer engineering through your selection of available professional options.
Common First Year
In the School of Information and Communications Technology, all electronics and engineering diploma programs (ECT, EEN, EET) have the first two semesters in common, facilitating easy transfer between program before second year.
Graduates may be able to proceed into Electronics Engineering Technology or Computer Engineering Technology. Professional option selection can maximize credit transfer into these programs.
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent with:
- Grade 12 English: ENG4(C) or ENG4(U)
- Grade 12 Mathematics: (C) or (U) or Grade 11 Mathematics: MCR3(U)
- OR Mature Student Status (age 19 or older) with the above prerequisite course(s), their equivalent(s) or appropriate Academic and Career Entrance (ACE) Certificate program credits (see Academic Upgrading).
- Students who do not meet these requirements may be given an alternate offer for the Applied Science and Technology Fundamentals certificate program.

Upper Level Entry
With existing postsecondary education in an electronics and/or computer engineering–related discipline, applicants may qualify to begin their Seneca College studies in a higher semester than 1. At the discretion of the academic area, upper level entry may be granted to applicants who partially qualify with the understanding that they need to take additional courses from previous semesters.
The Electronics Engineering Technician program has been designed to meet national technology accreditation requirements as mandated by the Canadian Council of Technicians and Technologists (CCTT), the Canadian Technology Accreditation Board (CTAB) and the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT).
Recognition as a Certified Engineering Technician
The Electronics Engineering Technician program has been designed to meet the academic requirements set by The Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT) for certification in the Technician category. Application and additional requirements (i.e. work experience and qualifying professional practice exam, etc.) to become certified are available from OACETT.

One of the general education courses must be a literature course (from any category) for which College English is a prerequisite.
A broad range of professional option courses in electronics and computers are available to allow you to develop a specialization.
