[Shot opens on White Background with Seneca Library Logo in the Center. You hear the sounds of footsteps as Jenn walks into the frame and pushes the logo off to the side.] JENN: Welcome to Seneca Libraries! My name is Jennifer and I’m a Digital Services Librarian. Seneca Libraries is your gateway to teaching and learning at Seneca College and we have resources and services to support all members of the Seneca community. Our four libraries are located throughout the GTA at Seneca’s main campuses. Our largest library is located at the Newnham Campus which is in the east end of Toronto while our second largest library is located across the city at Seneca@York. Our King Campus library is situated in picturesque northern York Region while our Markham library is located within the heart of business and industry in the east end of the GTA. As well our online library, located at library.senecacollege.ca (screenshot and address appears on screen), is available 24/7 from any computer anywhere in the world. One of our greatest assets is our staff. Our experienced staff are always available to help you with your research and questions. Let’s have a look at some of the ways they can help. [CUT TO:MARKHAM LIBRARY REFERENCE DESK. Sara is just finishing up with a student.] SARA: There you go. STUDENT: [appears as though she/he is in a big hurry] Thank you, you have been a total lifesaver! [takes the book from Sara is rushes away from the desk.] SARA: [to the camera with a little smirk on her face] Hi, my name is Sara, and I am a reference technicians here at Markham campus. That student has a big paper due tomorrow. I was glad I was able to help her find the information she needed, however, had she come to me a little sooner I would have been able to help her find so much more, perhaps in finding articles, ebooks, online videos, or do a more efficient Google search. [CUT TO: NEWNHAM LIBRARY CIRC DESK] [Angela is sitting at her computer when a student approaches.] ANGELA: Hi, welcome to Borrower Services, my name is Angela, how can I help you? STUDENT: [looking very worried and tense] Um, do you have this textbook? [passes Angela a piece of paper] ANGELA: [Angela searches on her computer] I think we do have this textbook. It's available for a two-hour loan but you can only use it inside the library. STUDENT: [looking relieved] Oh thank god. I have an exam this afternoon and I forgot my textbook at home. ANGELA: [smiling, looking like she’s seen this a hundred times before] Ok, glad I can help. I just need your student card. [fade to next shot as student pulls out her student card to give to Angela and Angela walks to the shelf to get the book] [CUT TO: NEWNHAM STACKS] [Jenn is walking towards the camera carrying a piece a paper with a student following. Jenn is taking the student to find her book on the shelf] JENN: Those are just a few ways we can help you in the library but we can also help you in the classroom. Here’s Mara, she’s one of our Liason Librarians and she’s teaching students about academic honesty, research and citation. [fade to next shot as Jenn points to the row where the book is located and tells the student 'it’s this way'] [CUT TO: CLASSROOM AT SENECA@YORK] [Mara is standing at the front of a classroom teaching a group of students.] MARA: So the best place to start your research for this assignment is on the Library’s Subject Guide designed for your program. STUDENT: [puts their hand up] Once I find the articles or videos or whatever for my assignment do I have to come into the library to read them? [look of hesitation on their face] MARA: No, not necessarily. Most of our resources are available online. All you need is your Seneca username and password and an Internet connection and you can access all these resources. STUDENT: [looking impressed] Cool, thanks! [CUT TO: A/V DESK AT KING] [Ken is standing behind the A/V counter handing a student a case of some sort In rushes a teacher.] TEACHER: [looking confused and frustrated] Hi Ken, there seems to be a problem with audio in the classroom. Could you please come help me? KEN: [Does some cowboy tricks with his walkie talkie and clips it to his belt as he says] Sure, no problem. Let's take a look. [Both Ken and Faculty are walking through the halls] [Ken, talking to camera] Working in A/V Services, I’m often called to classrooms. Usually it’s a quick fix but Going to these kinds of service calls keeps me connected with staff and faculty [They arrive at the classroom and the podium] Looks like someone has turned off the amp. I'll turn it back on. TEACHER: [big smile on his face] Thanks for all your help Ken, I really appreciate it. KEN: No problem, let me know if you need any other help. [as he’s walking away] [fade to next shot as the teacher continues to talk to her students] [CUT TO: MEETING ROOM AT NEWNHAM] [Jenn is in a meeting in a darkened meeting room, someone is standing at the front presenting.] JENN: [turns to look at camera, talking low, you can hear the presenter speaking in the background and can see them but they are out of focus] In addition to the service we provide to staff and students, we also have some great spaces for those looking to study or work with their group. [showing footage of the different spaces as she is talking] At each campus we have areas for quiet study, areas for groups to meet to work on their projects as well as comfortable areas for reading, chatting or relaxing. Many of our quiet study areas are wired so that you can use your laptop, or charge your phone or MP3 player. We have spaces for you to do research, preview videos, or even just photocopy documents. You can browse the paperback collection or search through our reference books or magazine and journal collections. PRESENTER: So Jennifer, what do you think about the revised timeline? JENN: [looks like she got caught, turns to the presenter] Um . . . I choose C? [looking sheepish with her shoulders up, turns back to the camera] Here’s a reminder about how Seneca Libraries can help you. [turns back to presenter] [CUT TO: MARKHAM LIBRARY] [Sara walking towards the camera] SARA: At the reference desk we help you find books, articles, videos, websites, and more.
