Seneca and Trent partner to give students diploma and degree in four years
Toronto, May 12, 2009 – Seneca students now have the opportunity to earn both a Liberal Arts diploma and a university degree from Trent University in just four years.
The pilot project currently underway allows eligible students to spend their first two years at Seneca while taking Trent University courses at either the university’s Peterborough or Durham College campuses. Students may then complete their studies with a third and fourth year entirely at Trent University.
“The program is designed to provide a unique college and university experience. It offers small post-secondary classes and one-on-one academic counselling and support to provide a gradual transition from college to university,” said Dr. Peter Meehan, Co-ordinator of Liberal Arts. “It is not about just going to on to university, it’s about providing students with the skills and attitudes necessary to succeed throughout their post-secondary experiences.”
The program shortens the time it could take to earn a diploma and a BA separately.
“We are very excited about our new partnership with Trent University,” says Seneca President Dr. Rick Miner. “This partnership is an innovative continuation of a program that provides our students with an array of educational options, now including the option to continue their studies at Trent University, the University of Toronto or York University.”
More students have chosen Seneca than any other college in Canada. With eight campuses across the Greater Toronto Area, Seneca provides internationally and nationally recognized polytechnic education, training, and academic pathways key to graduate career success in the global economy. Every Seneca diploma, certificate and degree program is developed to a high academic standard, in consultation with industry, integrated with information technology, combined with technical and transferable skills, and reinforced by opportunities for ongoing education and re-training.
