Toronto, May 1, 2012 – Seneca’s Markham Campus is proud to host the second annual “Impact of Family Violence: A South Asian Perspective” conference on May 2 and 3.
“This important conference will help to raise awareness of the urgent need to end family violence and partner abuse in our South Asian communities,” said David Agnew, Seneca President. “Seneca is pleased to partner with so many vital community organizations to host and demonstrate an on-going commitment to addressing this serious and persistent public health issue.”
The two-day conference is organized by the Social Services Network and will use a community development approach for addressing family violence in South Asian communities. It will be hosted by CBC’s Anne-Marie Mediwake and Dwight Drummond and involve experts from across Ontario.
Sponsors include the York Regional Police, Peel Regional Police, York Region Children’s Aid Society, CBC, York Region District School Board, Durham Regional Police and Toronto Police.
“This conference is a unique opportunity for dialogue to develop a strategic plan to achieve our shared vision - to prevent and eliminate family violence in our communities,” said Dr. Naila Butt, Executive Director of the Social Services Network and Chair of the Family Violence Conference Committee.
