New Seneca College post-graduate program in Project Management to develop the IT leaders of tomorrow
Project Management – Information Technology Ontario College graduate certificate first in Ontario
Toronto, May 14, 2012 – Beginning in September 2012, Seneca’s new program in Project Management gives graduating students from universities and colleges the opportunity to earn a graduate certificate with a focus on information technology in just eight months.
“Sometimes people who have a background in computers can struggle when they take on a leadership role,” says Teresa Hucko, Project Manager, Project Management Office, Infrastructure Ontario. “This program will help these people to see the big picture, develop their communication skills, teach them to be project leaders and make them highly marketable graduates.”
Seneca is launching the Project Management – Information Technology program – the first of its kind in Ontario – to provide students with the skills to succeed as a project manager in the IT world. These skills include an understanding of project management methodologies currently in use in the IT industry and emerging processes such as Agile.
The program is designed for those with a diploma or degree in electronics, software development or IT administration; or those with a diploma or degree in business or liberal arts with two years of IT experience.
“Graduate certificates offer a credential that can complement a bachelor’s degree or diploma by providing additional career-focused skills,” said David Agnew, Seneca President. “We are pleased to offer students the opportunity to enrich their IT education with specialized knowledge that can lead to new career options.”
“Project Managers need knowledge that is specific to an industry like IT,” says Timothy McKenna, Co-ordinator of Seneca’s Project Management – Information Technology program. “There are many professional roles for project managers and this new graduate certificate will give students the tools and techniques to succeed in those roles.”
Seneca has been designated as a Global Registered Educational Provider by the Project Management Institute (PMI) ® and graduates of the Project Management – Information Technology Ontario College graduate certificate will have the theory and Professional Development Units necessary to write qualifying exams for many PMI® credentials, including:
