Seneca Professor one of the first to earn communications designation
Beth Agnew recognized by the Society for Technical Communication
Toronto, May 23, 2012 – Beth Agnew is among the first to receive a Certified Professional Technical Communication (CPTC) ™ designation from the Society of Technical Communication Certification Commission (STCCC).
"It's a great step forward for our profession," said Agnew, professor and co-ordinator of the Technical Communication program. “Technical communicators make significant contributions to improving a company's bottom line by reducing customer support costs and making technology easier to use and understand. And they now have a certification of skills that they can rely on."
The new certification requires expert evaluation of demonstrated skills in areas including user, task and experience analysis, information design, information development, information production, and process management.
“We are proud of Beth’s accomplishment and are happy that our Technical Communication students are taught by leaders in the field,” said Andrew Schmitz, Chair of the Technical Communication program. “This new professional certification will also present our graduates with the opportunity to have their skills and experience acknowledged in a new way.”
Since 1998, Seneca’s Technical Communication program has been graduating skilled technical communicators who have gone on to careers with companies such as IBM, RIM, Siemens Milltronics, TD Bank, and Mount Sinai Hospital. The program provides students with a solid foundation in the areas that will be required for this new certification when they've met the experience requirements.
