Seneca celebrates $1.2 million donation from students with Glen Murray, Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities

Toronto, June 12, 2012 – The Honourable Glen Murray, Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities, joined Seneca students and staff today to celebrate a $1.2 million donation from the Seneca Student Federation (SSF) to support student bursaries.

The celebration took place at Seneca’s Newnham Campus Senecentre, 1750 Finch Avenue East, Toronto.

“Congratulations to the Seneca Student Federation for their generous contribution to student financial aid,” said The Honourable Glen Murray, Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities. “Their $1.2 million fund is one of the smartest investments they can make to help more students pursue a post-secondary education and be part of the skilled workforce of tomorrow.”

“The Seneca Student Federation is very committed to providing assistance to our students to alleviate some of their financial burden as they pursue their educational goals," said Samir Abdi, SSF President.

The new Seneca Student Federation Bursary Initiative will establish endowed bursaries of more than $50,000 annually for domestic and international students. It will also provide emergency funds for students in immediate financial need.

“We are very proud of the SSF and the leadership they have shown in making such a generous donation to assist their fellow students,” said David Agnew, Seneca President. “Thanks to their support, we are closer to our goal of making sure no student is forced to leave Seneca for financial reasons.”

The SSF provides services and activities that benefit and meet the needs of Seneca students in a fiscally responsible manner within a learning environment. It is the goal of every campus student council to offer a wide variety of programs and services to students and to represent the needs and concerns of students to the College's administration.
