Sudbury, Aug. 22, 2016 - A north-south partnership forged between Cambrian College and Seneca College will make accessing a range of degree and diploma programs easier for learners seeking an exceptional educational experience.
One of the first initiatives will enable Cambrian’s Physical Fitness Management students and recent graduates to enhance their credentials by pursing an Honour’s Bachelor of Therapeutic Recreation degree from Seneca. The collaboration will provide students with a maximum amount of transfer credits, making it quicker for them to complete the program.
The Presidents of Seneca and Cambrian signed an agreement on August 22, 2016, providing a broad framework for collaboration that will produce a number of benefits, including:
- Collaboration in teaching and learning to facilitate student mobility and to foster lifelong learning opportunities through increasing pathways, offering greater choice and accessibility for students across the postsecondary system;
- The development of innovative models and approaches that respond to current and emerging needs of Ontario employers;
- Alignment with best practices in teaching and learning, institutional planning, and service integration.
“We are delighted to partner with Cambrian on this important initiative to expand degree and diploma pathways for students,” said David Agnew, Seneca President. “We share a strong commitment to high-quality, career-focused programs, and look forward to working together to create new opportunities for our students.”
The new agreement creates seamless options and pathways for students of both institutions, enabling the pursuit of more credentials. The collaboration also calls for Cambrian and Seneca to work together for academic planning purposes, creating more opportunities for students beyond the walls of both institutions.

It also enhances Greater Sudbury’s reputation as a postsecondary destination of choice, and supports Cambrian’s and Seneca’s joint commitment to provide timely access to in-demand career preparation.”
The new partnership and the initiatives that spring from it are supported by the Ontario Council on Articulation and Transfer (ONCAT). Established in 2011, ONCAT was created to enhance student pathways and reduce barriers for students looking to transfer among Ontario’s 45 publicly-funded postsecondary institutions.
