A101: Nelson Abraham Memorial Bursary

One award of $200 to assist a student registered in any diploma/certificate program.

A102: ACL & Associates Ltd. Bursary

One award of $400 to assist a student registered in any diploma/certificate program.

A103: Alumni Student Government Leadership Award

The Seneca College Alumni Association has established an annual award of $750 for Student Government leaders. Applicants must have:

  • Served two (2) or more semesters on any one of the Student Government councils;
  • Demonstrated outstanding leadership in enhancing the quality of student life at Seneca;
  • Represented the College and/or Student Government through a relationship or activity with an external organization or group (including volunteerism);
  • Maintained a minimum 3.0 GPA; and
  • Demonstrated financial need.

A104: APC/ACC Leadership Awards

The Seneca Student Federation Incorporated (SSF Inc.) representing all Seneca student governments will annually present awards of $500 to students who have demonstrated a unique or outstanding contribution towards improving the quality of student life at the college. This award is presented at the annual Student Leadership Awards Ceremony. Apply for this award in SIRIS by choosing Financial Aid, then Leadership Awards. A105: Atkinson Charitable Foundation Bursary

A bursary to assist a student who has completed one semester in a diploma or certificate program.

A106: Baker & Baker/Seaboard Life Insurance Bursary

A bursary of $200 to assist a student who has completed one semester in a diploma or certificate program.

A107: The Bruce Berman Alumni Bursary

This bursary was created to support, on an annual basis, two students of Native ancestry enrolled in fulltime programs at Seneca College. In order to be eligible for this award, the students must have successfully completed their first year of studies with a minimum of a 3.0 grade point average and have demonstrated financial need. Candidates will be recommended by the Resolution, Equity and Diversity Centre.

A108: Campus Living Centres Inc. Academic Award

Campus Living Centres Inc. annually presents an award to two registered full-time students; one living in the Newnham campus residence and one living in the King campus residence. The recipients must maintain a C+ (65%) or better average and be able to demonstrate his or her contribution to student life at the college through direct involvement in at least two of the following areas:

  1. Social activities organized through recognized student bodies such as student governments, clubs and formalized residence groups;
  2. Sporting activities, such as intramurals, varsity athletics, and residence organized events;
  3. Academic and educational activities such as tutoring, organized study groups, educational campaigns, and fundraising initiatives.

Students employed by Campus Living Centres are not eligible for this award. Students can obtain applications for this award from the front desk of either residence. This award is presented at the annual Student Leadership Award Ceremony.

A109: The Chawkers Foundation Bursary

Bursaries of $500 to assist financially needy students registered in any diploma or certificate program.

A111: Friends of Seneca Association Bursaries

Bursaries of $1500 to students enrolled in any fulltime program of study. Candidates may be nominated by Seneca staff or faculty or apply independently through the Financial Aid Office. Selection will be made by the College Awards Committee based on a combination of demonstrated financial need, academic achievement and dedication to academic endeavours.

A112: General Bursary Fund

Bursaries of $500 to assist students registered in any diploma or certificate program, who have successfully completed at least one semester of study.

A113: Governor General's Academic Medal

One Collegiate Bronze Medal to the student who achieves the highest academic standing in the final year of a fulltime post-secondary diploma program. Candidates will be recommended by Faculty to the Awards Committee who will make the final selection.

A114: International Student Award

The Annie Wong Leung Kitwah Bursary fund provides bursaries to assist international students who have completed at least one semester of a post-secondary diploma or certificate program.

A115: Marie Labatte Award

The Marie Labatte Award is a full year Seneca College Tuition Scholarship offered to returning fulltime female students who have assumed a leadership role in student government or who have participated as a volunteer in community-related activities. Strong consideration will be given to candidates who plan to pursue studies in political science at the university level and/or those with aspirations to political office.

A116: Major League Entertainment "Second Chance" Scholarship

One award to provide financial assistance to individuals who have been involved with the criminal justice system. Candidates must have successfully completed one semester of study; must work with a role model in the legal, academic, business or civil service to enhance their integration into society; and be willing to contribute 8-10 hours of community work per month.

A117: The W. Roy McCutcheon Alumni Award

A bursary to assist a student in any fulltime program.

A118: The Michael McKenzie Scholarship

The Michael McKenzie Scholarship is designed to encourage and assist those with Sickle Cell Anemia in their decision to undertake post-secondary study at Seneca College. Contact the Financial Aid Office, Newnham Campus, for a separate application form.

A119: W. T. Newnham Leadership Award

A trophy and an award of $500 to be presented to a student who has demonstrated outstanding leadership in the enhancement of the quality of student life at Seneca College. A grade point average of at least 2.5, plus outstanding leadership related to a short term project or a year long activity will be the major criterion. Students are nominated by Seneca staff and must have demonstrated their ability to function as a leader of student leaders. The recipient is selected by a selection committee chaired by the Director, Student Services. The award is presented at the annual Student Leadership Award Ceremony. A120: Olympia and York Achievement Bursary

One award to assist a student registered in any diploma/certificate program.

A121: Stephen E. Quinlan Award

The Seneca Student Federation Inc. will annually present a trophy and cash award created to recognize and honour retired President, Stephen E. Quinlan. A large trophy with the name of each year's winner will be displayed at the college and the winner will receive a replica trophy as a keepsake.

Any Seneca employee may nominate a student for the award by submitting a letter of nomination to Student Services. The major criteria for the award include:

  • Academic achievement (minimum cumulative GPA 3.0);
  • Significant contribution to assisting other students in a voluntary capacity;
  • Contribution to assisting others in the community beyond Seneca College;
  • Demonstration of strong personal integrity, sound character and tenacity.

A122: The Sandy Sandomierski Bursary

This award of $200 is open to any Seneca College day student enrolled in a fulltime post-secondary or tuition short program. Selection is based on academic performance with a strong emphasis on excellence and on financial need.

A123: SABE Scholarship

The SABE Scholarship is awarded to students of West Indian or African Heritage who are members of SWIAA (Seneca West Indian African Association) and are returning students with a demonstrated need and a GPA of 3.0 or above. Applicants must demonstrate leadership through involvement in college activities and/or in their community. Applicants must submit their most recent transcript, a letter of application supporting their request and two references from any academic advisor/counsellor, professor or commnity leader. Selection will be made by the Seneca Association of Black Educators (SABE).

A126: The Peter N. Ross Scholarship

This award was established as a tribute to Dr. Peter Ross to recognize his dedication and service as Governor (1993-1998) and Vice-Chair (1994-1997) of the Seneca College Board of Governors. The recipient will be selected on the basis of academic standing, financial need and their contribution to Seneca College student life. Applicants should attach a summary of their achievements to their application form.

A127: The Isabel Jones Bursary

An award to assist a student registered in any diploma or certificate program.

A128: Seneca College Board of Governors' Entrance Scholarships

Six scholarships awarded to students entering Seneca College directly from high school based on high academic standing in their final year. Emphasis is placed on the academic subjects English, Mathematics and Sciences at the Grade 12 level. Application forms are included in the Admissions Handbook and must be received in the Financial Aid Office by August 30 of each year.

A129: Seneca College Alumni Association Bursaries

The Seneca College Alumni Association created and continues to build a bursary fund, which provides awards of up to $500 to assist students enrolled in any diploma or certificate program, who have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 and have demonstrated financial need. Awards are available in all three semesters.

A130: The Stephen E. Quinlan Next Generation Bursary

In each year, there will be one $1500 bursary available to the child of a Seneca College Alumni Association member who is pursuing a fulltime diploma or post-diploma program, who has a minimum GPA of 3.0; and has demonstrated financial need. The award will normally be made in March (based on Fall applications).

A131: Seneca Cup

The most prestigious College award is the Seneca Cup. This award acknowledges academic proficiency and contributions made toward improving the quality of student life at the College. Any graduating student enrolled in a certificate, diploma or degree program demonstrating the following characteristics is eligible for nomination:

  • Ability and scholastic achievement
  • Personal integrity/sound and good character
  • Contribution to others and to the community
  • Involvement in student life (e.g. sports, recreation, student government, peer tutoring, etc.)
  • Proven ability to balance personal responsibilities and school involvement
  • Will graduate from the program in the semester that they have been nominated

Any Seneca employee can nominate a student by sending a letter of recommendation and giving at least three examples for each of the criteria stated above to the Financial Aid Office by May 15th of each year. Nominators are required to attend an interview.

 

A132: Seneca College Teaching Masters Association Bursary

A bursary of $400 to assist financially needy sole support parents registered in any fulltime post-secondary program.

A133: Sheppard Campus SFC Academics Award

This award of $500 is open to any student enrolled in the second or third year of a fulltime program based on academic achievement - minimum 3.5 GPA. Applicants must demonstrate leadership (supported by a letter of recommendation from a Seneca staff member), initiative and dedication to academics. This award is presented at the annual Student Leadership Awards Ceremony. Apply for this award in SIRIS by choosing Financial Aid, then Leadership Awards. A134: The Donald Sim Scholarship

Donated by Donald Sim, past member of the Seneca College Board of Governors, this award will be presented to a student for his/her academic achievement, involvement in extra-curricular college activities and personal qualities.

A135: Kris Singh Award

One award of $200 to assist a student enrolled in any program. Candidate will be recommended by faculty.

A136: Snap Studios Inc. Award

Donated by Snap Studios, an award of $250 is given to an international student in any fulltime program who has displayed financial need.

A137: Student Life Achievement Scholarships Leadership

Financial awards will be presented in the Spring semester to students who have demonstrated outstanding leadership in student government, campus clubs, the College newspaper, radio station, or special events of a cultural or artistic nature. Students with outstanding contributions to their community are also eligible. The applicants must have achieved high academic standing throughout the semester. A138: Student Life Bursary

A bursary of $300 to assist a student enrolled in any diploma or certificate program.

A139: The University Women's Club of North York Bursary

Two awards of $500 to assist female students who have completed their first year of study at Seneca College.

A140: Maia Von Nuk Bursary

One award of $200 to assist a student registered in any diploma program.

A142: Tuition Assistance Bursaries

Bursaries available to students who demonstrate financial need, to assist with paying tuition/education costs while attending Seneca. Applicants must complete a College Bursary - Tuition Assistance Fund application form, available on SIRIS. Deadline dates are:

  • Fall semester - October 15
  • Winter semester - February 15
  • Summer semester - June 15

 

A143: Max Silver & Milton Brody Memorial Award

A bursary established in memory of the donors' fathers is offered to mature students returning to school to upgrade education with demonstrated academic achievement. The recipient is to be selected by the College Awards Committee.

A145: ACL and Associates Ltd. Leadership Award

ACL Student Benefits, the Student Health, Dental and Extended Health Plan insurance broker, will annually present two awards of $1000 to a student who has shown outstanding leadership. This award will be presented to a student who has managed to maintain a 2.5 G.P.A. while making significant contributions to the Seneca community or their community. This award recognizes a student who is the "unsung hero", someone who quietly works behind the scenes to make Seneca a better place while still maintaining their academics and juggling other responsibilities. A147: RBC Bursary Foundation Fund

A bursary fund open to all Ontario students across the College awarded primarily on the basis of demonstrated academic achievement and demonstrated financial need. The recipient is selected by the Awards Selection Committee.

A148: Wayne Norrison Leadership Award

The Seneca Student Federation Incorporated will annually present an award of $500 to a student who demonstrates outstanding leadership in the enhancement of student life at Seneca College. This award was created to recognize and honour Wayne Norrison, Seneca Vice-President, International and Business Development (retired), for his many years of outstanding leadership and support for the SSF Inc. Any Seneca student (excluding SSF Inc. council members) may apply for this award to recognize leadership related to student life at Seneca. Applicants must have achieved high academic standing throughout the semester. A letter of recommendation from a Seneca staff member who has observed the leadership activity is required. A150: Vicki Milligan Carter Award

The Vicki Milligan Carter Leadership Award was created by the SSF Inc. to honour a long time employee of Seneca College on the date of her retirement. A former faculty member, Departmental Chair, Director of Student Services and voting member on the SSF Inc. Board of Directors, Vicki's zest to improve student life, assist anyone in need and to make Seneca a better place spoke volumes of her commitment to everything Seneca.

This award is open to any Seneca student with a minimum 2.5 GPA who has shown academic achievement, leadership, commitment to people and a zest for all things Seneca. A151: SMILE Mentoring Program Leadership Award

One award of $300 to be presented annually to a SMILE mentor. Applicants must have:

  • Served as a SMILE mentor for two or more semesters (including the current semester)
  • Demonstrated leadership and contribution toward the enhancement of student life at Seneca College
  • A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0

Candidates must apply for this award and provide a letter of reference from a full time faculty or staff member of Seneca College. Your letter of reference cannot be a SMILE staff member. SMILE Mentors may submit applications directly to one of the SMILE office locations by February 1 of each year. A selection committee will review the candidates’ applications and candidates may be interviewed by the committee. For a Caribbean-Canadian who has overcome adversity and is pursuing a post-secondary education in any chosen program in the college.

A159: BMO Financial Group Bursary

Bursaries to assist students in any full-time program who have demonstrated academic achievement and financial need.

A160: TD Financial Group Bursary

A bursary to assist a student in any full-time program based on demonstrated financial need and academic achievement.

B101: The Andrew Lindup Award of Excellence

Awards to be given each year to the best all round students graduating from the Underwater Skills program at King Campus. Recipients of this award will be presented with a trophy representative of the diving profession. Recommendations to be made by a Committee of Underwater Skills Faculty.

B102: Aventix Animal Health Corp. Dental Care Proficiency Award

A dental text with certificate for the student graduating from the Veterinary Technician program. Students must successfully complete the Dental Unit and demonstrated skill in the use of dental prophy tools and equipment, and show noticeable interest in companion animal oral health/hygiene. Recipient will be selected by the Faculty.

B104: Clinical Pathology Award for Excellence

A clinical pathology text for the student with academic and technical excellence in Clinical Pathology. Recipient will be selected by the Faculty.

B105: Hill's Pet Nutrition Canada Small Animal Nutrition Award

One award of $200 to a graduating student who is proficient in nutrition and who exhibits above average technical skills in any or all of the practically-oriented subjects. The recipient will be selected by the Faculty.

B106: Jim Smith Memorial Award

One bursary of $50 will be awarded to the best all round student in the Veterinary Technician program. Recipient will be selected by the Faculty.

B108: Ontario Association of Veterinary Technicians Scholarship

One award of $250 to an outstanding student exhibiting both academic and technical excellence and who has completed the first year of the Veterinary Technician program. The recipient will be selected by the Faculty.

B109: The Ontario Veterinary Medical Association Award

One award of $100 and an engraved plaque to be given to a student graduating with above average standing from the Veterinary Technician program with emphasis on clinical practice. As well, the recipient should have demonstrated leadership qualities and involvement in extra curricular activities. The recipient will be selected by the Faculty.

B110: Medical Royal Canin Communication/Nutrition Award

One award of $200 offered to a student graduating from the Veterinary Technician program, who has demonstrated proficiency in small animal nutritional counselling as well as good communication and conflict resolution skills, appearing to be comfortable with educating and dealing with clients. The recipient will be selected by the Faculty.

B111: Veterinary Technician Program Bursary

A bursary of $100 to assist a student registered in the Veterinary Technician program.

B112: The John D. Laing Bursary

An annual bursary for second year students enrolled in Seneca's Veterinary Technician program (King Campus). The recipient will be selected by the Faculty based upon the following criteria:

  • Second year student enrolled in the Veterinary Technician program
  • Sound academic standing and completion of the program's first year
  • Above average dedication, compassion and caring
  • Demonstrated leadership and volunteer involvement in the community
  • Demonstrated financial need

 

B200: CFUW-ACFDU/Aurora-Newmarket (Chapter) Bursary

The Canadian Federation of University Women Aurora-Newmarket Chapter offers an annual bursary of $500 to assist a financially needy, mature, female student enrolled in any diploma program offered at the King Campus. Applicants must be in the second year of their program, involved in the school environment, a Canadian citizen and a resident of York Region.

B201: Garrett Whynot Memorial Award

One award of $100 to assist a student at King Campus with preference given to the individual who has demonstrated a willingness to assist his/her peers.

B202: King Campus Bursary Fund

One award of $500 to assist a student registered in any diploma or certificate program at the King Campus.

B203: Alex Millar Memorial Bursary

A bursary of $200 to assist a King Campus student in the final year of their program.

B204: David Somerville Award

One award to a student enrolled in any program at King Campus. Candidate must be recommended by a Seneca staff or faculty member and attain a minimum cumulative G.P.A. of 2.5 and demonstrate enthusiasm, motivation and a positive attitude toward the enhancement of King Campus life.

B206: King SAC Award

Prior to the incorporation of the Seneca Student Federation in 1999, the King Student Administrative Council established an award to assist students in second, third or fourth year of their program, and to assist graduating students. Students must demonstrate leadership qualities through active contributions to the development of the King Campus community, as well as maintain a minimum cumulative G.P.A. of 3.0. B300: School of Public Safety & Police Studies Bursary

A bursary of $400 to assist students registered in the Police Foundations, Advanced Investigations and Enforcement Graduate Certificate or 911 & Emergency Services Communications programs.

B400: The Tim Gill Memorial Award

Established by Mountain Equipment Co-op, his friends and family, to honour Tim Gill's passion for canoeing and the Canadian outdoors, this award, based on academic merit and financial need, will assist deserving students registered fulltime in the Recreation and Leisure Services program. Recipient will be selected by the Faculty.

B401: The Golf Course Technician Alumni Award

Awards to second year Golf Course Technician students based on financial need, academic achievement and success in the field during their Co-op work placement. Candidates will be recommended by Faculty and Alumni.

B402: Wyatt Tyszka Memorial Scholarship

Established by the family of former student Wyatt Tyszka, this scholarship of $200 will be awarded to a student in the second year of the Golf Course Technician program. The candidate, to be recommended by the Faculty, should not be under the sponsorship of a golf club and should exhibit qualities of honesty, integrity and sportsmanship as associated with the game of golf.

B500: The American Express Corporate Services Award

This $200 award will be given annually to a second year Tourism and Travel student who has maintained a minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average, has demonstrated financial need and has the ability to meet the eligibility requirements of the Amex/Seneca corporate co-op program.

B501: The Carlson Wagonlit Travel Award

This $200 award will be given on an annual basis to a Travel and Tourism student who has demonstrated positive academic achievement by maintaining a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 in their first or second year, demonstrated financial need and has shown an understanding of the importance of building client relationships as part of the sales process (i.e. Does the student have the capabilities to be a sales person?).

B502: The Contiki Holidays Award

This $200 award will be given annually to a Travel and Tourism student enrolled in their second year who has displayed financial need and maintained at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average. Established by the family and friends of a former Seneca student, this fund is to assist deserving students in the Social Service Worker program.

Established by the faculty, friends and family of Carol L. Paasche, professor of ECE, upon her retirement from the college to honour her passion for helping students, this fund will assist students who are registered in a fulltime ECE program. C104: The FAN 590 Award

One award of $750 for a student in the Broadcasting - Radio and Television program. The recipient will be offered a volunteer position at the FAN radio station during the summer months. Selection will be made by the Faculty.

C105: The Norn Garriock Award

One award to a student completing the second semester of the Broadcasting - Radio and Television program. Selection of the candidate will be done by the Faculty based on academic standing and personal qualities.

C106: The Bob Hesketh Memorial Award

The Bob Hesketh Memorial Award is a tuition scholarship offered to students registered in the Seneca College Broadcast Journalism program. The successful candidate will be a student in good academic standing who is also:

  • Hard working and fair-minded in pursuit of his/her journalistic work
  • Able to write clearly, succinctly and with a sense of humour and
  • Show financial need

The recipient will receive half of the scholarship in May and the other half in September. Selection will be made by the Faculty. Bob Hesketh, a member of the Canadian Broadcast Hall of Fame, was a broadcaster and journalist who spent 40 years in the newspaper and broadcast industry with the Toronto Telegram and CFRB Radio Toronto.

 

C107: The Ross McCreath Scholarship

One award of $500 for a student in the second year of Broadcasting - Radio and Television program. The recipient will be recommended by the Faculty. Selection will be based on academic standing, proficiency in radio and television studies with emphasis on marketing and sales in their work experience. As well, the recipient should exhibit a philanthropic spirit that characterized Ross McCreath's career.

C108: TSN B.E.S.T. Award

Financial awards and work term placements offered to students enrolled in a broadcasting educational program. To obtain a TSN B.E.S.T. Program application form, see your program coordinator. All applications for work terms and bursaries must be submitted to TSN's Human Resources Department through the individual school's program coordinator. Applications are to be forwarded for consideration by the following deadlines: March 28, 2010 for Fall placements (September-December) and October 5, 2009 for Winter placements (January-April). Selection will be made by the Human Resources Program Officer at TSN and the course coordinator.

C109: The Chuck "Spider" Jones Award

Funds donated by Premier Award winner and Seneca College graduate, Chuck "Spider" Jones, provides one award of $100 to assist a student in the Radio & Television program. Recipient to be recommended by the Faculty.

A scholarship of $1000 to a special needs student graduating from the Radio program. Established by the College in memory of the female students slain at the Ecole Polytechnique in December 1989, this fund will provide one award to assist a deserving female student enrolled in any program in the schools of Engineering Technology.

C305: The Canadian Healthcare Engineering Society (CHES) Award

An endowed bursary open to first or second year Seneca students enrolled in Seneca's Centre for the Built Environment, Building Systems Engineering Technology program. One or two bursaries will be granted each year. The recipient will be recommended by the Faculty based upon the following criteria:

  • A first or second year student enrolled in the Centre for the Built Environment's
  • Building Systems Engineering Technology program
  • Demonstrated academic achievement
  • Demonstrated financial need

 

C306: The Greater Toronto Sewer and Watermain Contractors Association Endowed Bursary Award

An endowed bursary open to third year students in the Centre for the Built Environment's Civil Engineering Technology program. The recipient will be recommended by the Faculty based on the following criteria:

  • A third year student in the Civil Engineering Technology program with focus on environmental technologies or sewer/watermain reflected studies
  • Must require and demonstrate financial need
  • Demonstrated academic achievement as the highest standing of the class

    Recipients will be invited to attend the GTSWCA annual general meeting and dinner.

 

C307: Transportation Association of Canada/Diane and John Emery Entrance Scholarship

This award is for students entering first year of the civil engineering technician program. This award is to encourage careers in transportation field. Qualification is based on academic achievements after completing the first semester in the civil engineering technician program. Recommendation to be made by faculty.

 

 

C400: The Air Canada Award

This award is presented each year to the graduating student who is judged outstanding by the School Faculty in the academic and flying program; displayed other attributes such as a professional attitude, personal appeal and participation in all activities within the program. This award consists of an engraved plaque on the cup retained by the College; an award certificate to be retained by the winner; and a return pass to any point in the Air Canada system.

C401: The Air Flight Technology Award

This financial award will be presented to a deserving student who has demonstrated the greatest academic improvement through semesters 1 and 2 of the FPR program as well as having demonstrated financial need. The recipient will be chosen by the professors of the School.

C402: The Global Aerospace Underwriting Managers (Canada) Ltd. Award

This award will be given to one or more deserving FPR student(s) in second, third or fourth year as recommended by the safety officer and agreed on by the flight line staff and Faculty. The recipient will have demonstrated financial need and have displayed initiative in promoting safety for pilots and aircraft at Seneca. They may have displayed this creativity by coordinating efforts of others to achieve their safety goals, publishing articles for Flight Safety Review and/or encouraging other involvement.

C403: The Canadian Aeronautics Space Institute Award

The award is presented by the Institute to a graduating student selected by the Faculty and who displayed a high degree of professionalism, maturity and leadership in the program and achieved the highest standard in academics upon graduation.

C404: Canadian Owners and Pilots Award

This award is presented to the student who excelled in the flying component of the FPR program as selected by the Faculty. This award includes an engraved plaque and a cheque for $100.

C405: Brian Craven Memorial Award

This award recognizes overall achievement by a student in the Flight Instructor Program or, if the F.I.T. course is not offered, to a graduating student in the FPR program. It is to be voted on by the entire Faculty of the School of Aviation and Flight Technology. It is suggested that the award be presented to a student who has not won another award.

C407: The Frasca International Award

This award is presented on an annual basis to a deserving student who has achieved the highest overall marks in the Commercial Pilot Written and Flight Test, Instrument Rating Written and Flight Test and the Multi Engine Flight test. He or she will have also demonstrated the effective use of resources available such as computer assisted training and flight simulators and have demonstrated financial need.

C408: The William Kent Davidge Memorial Award

One award of $300 to a student graduating from the FPR program. Selection will be based on good all round performance in the program with emphasis on the student's enthusiasm and dedication to a career in aviation.

C409: Nicola Guarino Memorial Scholarship

One award to be made to a student graduating from the FPR program. Selection to be made by the Faculty and will be based on high academic achievement and good all round performance in the program. The award will consist of a plaque or trophy as well as a cheque for $300.

C410: The Sheryl Lee Memorial Award

This award of $300 will be given to a deserving student in the FPR program on completion, who has clearly demonstrated continuous best effort in mastering the skills and knowledge necessary to become a successful professional pilot. The recipient must, as Sheryl did on so many occasions, also have displayed the willingness to motivate and help others achieve their highest potential in the Aviation program. Students are encouraged to provide input into the choosing of the recipient with Faculty making the final decision.

C411: The W.J. Lewis Memorial Scholarship

An award will be given to that student who is entering the fifth semester of the FPR program and who has achieved the highest overall grade point average in the first four academic semesters of the FPR program, unless that student was awarded the Greg Szabo Memorial Award. In that case, it will be awarded to the student with the second highest grade point average.

C412: The Gerry Pinder Award

This award worth $250, to be awarded every year, will be given to the graduate who shows the greatest overall improvement in their flying, academics and personal development during their academic career in the FPR program. This award recognizes the importance that Gerry placed in the aiming for and attaining of excellence in every aspect of one's life.

C413: The Frank Rock Award

One award of $250 to a student who is judged by the Faculty and the Chair of the School of Aviation and Flight Technology to have the greatest competence and commanded the most respect for his/her contribution to the FPR program. The award includes the inscription of the recipient's name on the Frank Rock plaque displayed at Seneca College, as well as a personal plaque commemorating the event.

C415: The J.E. Waters Award

Two awards of $200 based on the following criteria:

  • To assist a student registered in the FPR program who excelled in the academics of semesters 1 and 2.
  • To be awarded to a deserving semester student who consistently maintains a high standard in flying and academics.
  • To be awarded to a deserving graduate who was able to achieve a high standard in flying through pure hard work and has demonstrated this on completion of his/her commercial pilot's license.

 

C416: The Ted Brown Memorial Bursary

An endowment bursary in support of Seneca students in the School of Aviation and Flight Technology in honour and memory of long time faculty member Ted Brown. The recipient will be recommended by Faculty based upon the following criteria:

Established in honour of Mike Elhaddad, this scholarship of $1000 is funded by Betatek Inc. Selection of the recipients will be made from candidates enrolled in the Chemical Laboratory Technology - Pharmaceutical program and will be based on academic performance and financial need.

This award will be given on an annual basis to a student enrolled in their final year of the Biotechnologist Technology - Research program who has demonstrated financial need and achieved a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0.

A bursary in the amount of $1,000 will be awarded to one student from each of the following faculties:

The recipient will be selected by the Awards Committee based upon the following criteria:

A scholarship to a final year student in Accounting or Accounting and Finance.

D301: CGA Ontario Award for Excellence

An annual "Award for Excellence" to a final year student who has displayed outstanding achievement in the Accounting and Finance program. The award of $3000 is composed of a cash award of $500 plus a credit of $2500 to be drawn down within 18 months for purposes of defraying any fees related to courses in the CGA program of professional studies. Selection to be made upon recommendation of the Faculty, based on the following criteria:

  • The candidate must have obtained the highest examining results and an "A" average in a specific subject or combination of a number of subjects as approved by CGA Ontario.
  • Approved subjects are those qualifying for exemption under the present CGA Ontario exemption policy for CGA courses FA2, FA3, and MA1.The award is presented at the end of each academic year.

 

D303: Scott R. Gerricks Bursary

An endowed bursary established by McKenzie Financial in honour and in memory of Scott R. Gerricks. The criteria is:

  • A fulltime student enrolled in the School of Accounting, Accounting and Finance program or the International Accounting and Finance program
  • A student who has overcome personal challenges to attain academic success/achievement, above average dedication, compassion, caring, and demonstrated financial need

Recipient to be selected by the College Awards Committee.

A $500 scholarship for an Accounting student enrolled in either first or second semester Accounting Basics (ACC120 or ACC220) in the Faculty of Business' Accounting program. Award recipient to be recommended by Faculty.

One award to recognize outstanding achievement of a student in the Business Administration program at King Campus.

D402: The Val Azzoli Bursary

This award will be given annually to a student enrolled in the Business Administration program, who has successfully completed the first semester of studies at the King Campus with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 and has demonstrated financial need.

D403: The Alex Miklos Award

This award will be given annually to a student enrolled in the Business Administration program who has successfully completed the first semester at the King Campus with a cumulative grade point average of a minimum of 3.0 and has demonstrated financial need.

Students in FSM or FSP to receive their elder planning counsellor designation through EPC based on academic/involvement/leadership.

D501: School of Fashion & Merchandising Alumni Bursary

A bursary of $200 each to a second or final year student based on academic standing and financial need. Applicants must have attained a GPA of 3.5 in each completed semester and must submit to the Faculty an essay (max. 1000 words) explaining the contribution he/she plans to make to the industry after graduation. Recipient will be recommended by the Alumni Bursary committee. Deadline for this application is December 29, 2009.

D502: Aramark Food Services Award

A scholarship offered to a student in the final year of the Visual Merchandising Arts program. The selection is based on academic achievement, strong graphic skills, a creative design sense and has designed and/or produced a wall mural. Selection will be made by the Faculty.

D503: Canadian Cosmetics Careers Association Bursary

The Canadian Cosmetics Careers Association provides a bursary to students in Cosmetics programs at Ontario Community Colleges. One student is recommended by Faculty for their academic achievements as well as demonstrated aptitude for the Cosmetics industry. The deadline for this application form is March 1, 2010. The recipient will be selected by the Faculty after the April promotion meetings. The winner will receive a certificate of achievement, one year free membership to the CCCA and a cheque for $200 to be presented at a Fall ceremony with the CCCA.

D504: Changing Faces Boutique Award

One award of $50 to a student enrolled in the second year of the Fashion Merchandising program who has achieved good academic standing, shows financial need and an aptitude for the industry. Recipient to be selected by the Faculty.

D505: The Lesa Edmonds Bursary

Established in memory of a former student, Lesa Edmonds, a bursary of $50 to assist a student in the Fashion Arts program. Recipient will be recommended by the Faculty.

D506: Esthetician Award

One award of $75 to recognize outstanding academic achievement, leadership qualities and good all round performance in the Esthetician program.

D507: The Fashion Arts First Year Achievement Award

One award of $100 to a student in the first year of the Fashion Arts program based on high academic achievement, creative fashion ability and volunteer work in the fashion industry and at the college. Recipient will be recommended by the Faculty.

D508: Fashion Arts Award

One award of $50 for students in the Fashion Arts program for outstanding achievement. Recipient is recommended by the Faculty.

D509: Perry Dellio - Perry's Yorkville Award

One award of $150 to a student enrolled in semester 3 of the Fashion Merchandising - Retail Management program, based on academic standing, financial need and an aptitude for the industry. The recipient will be selected by the Faculty and interviewed by Perry Dellio.

D510: The Tommy Hilfiger (Canada) Award

This award will be given, on an annual basis, to a student enrolled in their second year of studies in either the Retail Management or the Fashion Merchandising programs. The successful candidate will show a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 and demonstrate financial need. A representative of Tommy Hilfiger Canada will sit in on the selection committee for this award.

An award offered to a student graduating from the Visual Merchandising Arts program. Recipient is selected by the Faculty.

D512: Vivienne Poy Creative Knitwear Award

A scholarship of $400 for a student in the final year of Fashion Arts. Recipient is selected by the Faculty.

D513: The Liz Stark Memorial Award

One award of $300 for students enrolled in the second year of Fashion Merchandising or Fashion Merchandising - Retail Management. Established in honour of Liz Stark by her friends, this award is based on academic standing, financial need and an aptitude for the industry. Recipient is selected by the Faculty.

D514: The Toni Stoneham Fashion Merchandising Award

One award of $200 to a student enrolled in semester 3 of the Fashion Merchandising program. The recipient will be selected by the Faculty based on academic standing and aptitude for the industry.

D516: The VMA Advisory Board Portfolio Awards

Awards for students in the Visual Merchandising Arts program. Recipients are selected by the Faculty.

D517: The Morris Watkin Memorial Scholarship

This endowment fund was bequeathed to Seneca College from the estate of Shirley Watkin in memory of her husband Morris Watkin (1908-1974), president and creative force behind Miss Sun Valley Ltd., and prominent figure in the Canadian fashion industry. The Fund provides an annual scholarship of $200 for a student graduating from the Fashion Arts program, who demonstrates excellence in fashion design. Recipient is to be recommended by the Faculty.

D520: Larry Thomas Saifd Trillium Award

This award is presented to a student in the Retail Florist program in recognition of outstanding achievement, commitment and dedication to the creative art of floral design.

D521: The Albert & Claire Haddad Bursary

An endowed bursary in support of a second year Seneca student who is in the School of Fashion and Merchandising in honour of Albert and Claire Haddad. The recipient will be recommended by Faculty and must demonstrate the following criteria:

  • A second year student enrolled in the School of Fashion and Merchandising, Fashion Arts or Fashion Merchandising program
  • Sound academic standing and completion of the program's first year
  • Above average dedication, passion and commitment in pursuit of their education and career in the fashion industry

One award of $300 donated by the Szeto family will be given to an international Chinese student with the best academic achievement, studying Real Property Assessment and Administration course.
