Advanced Instructor Training

Join the faculty at Seneca College for a day of Advanced Instructor Training. The content covered in this course exceeds the requirements of the Flight Instructor Refresher Course and is designed for Instructors who want more than the standard three day refresher course or for Instructors who want to improve their knowledge and skills as a Flight Instructor. If you are planning on attending our Flight Instructor Refresher Course, please join us for an optional fourth day which offers Flight Instructors training in areas that are often not made available. The course tuition fee is $169.50 (HST is included), however, if you are enrolling in our Flight Instructor Refresher Course, the tuition fee is only an additional $70 to the refresher course tuition fee. Join Seneca’s Centre for Academic Excellence Team for the opportunity to learn, discuss and gather information to lead our nation in providing progressive flight training.

 The next course will be held March 2012 in conjunction with the February 27-29, 2012 Flight Instructor Refresher Course.

 Effective use of Visual Aids

In this workshop we will discuss ways of using images, videos and other visual aids effectively. Topics include tips for using visual aids, designing presentations, avoiding visual distractions, and alternatives to PowerPoint.

Creating and Using Rubrics for Evaluation

This workshop will help participants design and apply rubrics for a given evaluative purpose. Through guided activities participants will explore a variety of rubrics and will examine the theory/reasoning behind their use. Further, participants will collectively create a rubric based on a relevant assessment and practice applying the rubric against a sample scenario. As such, this workshop is designed to be practical.

Learners and Learning in Aviation

This workshop will provide participants with an opportunity to discuss the diversity of our learners today and to apply principles and strategies to promote learning in aviation. Participants will be active in applying this information to a specific flight instructor lesson plan.

Course Presenters

Valerie Lopes
Valerie is faculty member in the Centre for Academic Excellence. She is one of the research mentors for the Teaching and Learning research studies funded by the Higher Education Quality Council of Ontario, and the research advisor for the School of Aviation. Valerie believes in the power of social media to facilitate teaching and learning.

Bev Beattie
Bev has been a faculty member in the Seneca Nursing degree program for 10 years, and is currently a joining member of the Centre for Academic Excellence Team. Bev’s philosophy supports the need for educators to plan and facilitate meaningful, engaging, applicable and fun learning experiences, while striving to meet the needs of diverse learners. She also continues to be interested in issues and trends related to public health nursing.

Kevin Pitts
Kevin is a faculty member in the Centre for Academic Excellence at Seneca College. Kevin’s work and interest revolves around the effective use of technology to enhance the teaching and learning process whether in class, online, or a mixture of both.

Flight Instructor Refresher & Professional Development Course - $469 TAX FREE (4 day course – February 27 - March 1, 2012)

OPTION 2:
Flight Instructor Professional Development Course - $169.50 HST Included (1 day course – March 1, 2012)

Note: The Flight Instructor Professional Development single day course does not allow you to renew your Flight Instructor Rating as per (CARs 421.67). Course content and schedule subject to change.
