We will explore the theoretical and practical aspects of this discipline.
Our goal will be to enable students to become more understanding, sensitive, skilful and self-assured in dealing with the many difficult interpersonal situations that they will encounter, both personally and professionally.

Private Investigations
This subject builds on the students understanding of the law and how it applies to private policing and investigation.
With a focus on civil as opposed to criminal cases, specific emphasis will be placed on relevant legislation and legal liability, with an eye towards the areas of corporate investigations, private insurance, WCB fraud and internal theft.
The development of specific sources of information is key to this process.

Photography and Surveillance
This subject is designed to generate proficiency in the use of the 35mm format camera.
You will evaluate the interaction of film, light, camera and subject allowing you to demonstrate techniques such as depth of field, panning, freezing motion, low light shooting and telephoto photography.
You will also assess the components required to enter a photograph into court and analyze Part VI of the Criminal Code regarding the interception of private communications.
In addition, you will develop surveillance skills through classroom study and practical application involving participation in a team environment.
You will utilize foot and vehicle surveillance at a variety of sites, integrating specialized equipment and surveillance techniques to surreptitiously follow a known target.

Corporate Crime Investigations
This subject focuses on fraud, theft and other property offences in the corporate environment.
In many ways, today's new fraud schemes are simply variations of old schemes.
Students are introduced to lapping, kiting, forgery, Ponzi schemes and embezzlement.
Students analyze, discuss and solve fraud schemes in a group, case-study environment.
Students also learn to detect property crime and recognize environments and situations with a high probability of fraud or theft.

Firearms Safety and Proficiency
This subject concentrates on the safe handling and use of firearms.
Students will participate in the "Canadian Firearms / Restricted Firearms Safety Course" and tests.
Students will then receive practical training with a 9mm pistol.
Students will be test for safe handling, accurate firing and general knowledge of this firearm.

The subject will provide students with the basic formats and principles of corporate/business communications.
It emphasizes the analysis of audience, purpose and message.
Students will practice these formats and principles in a variety of situations commonly encountered at work in their respective fields.
