This subject will provide the student with the mental and tactical skills public safety officers require to remain safe in hazardous situations. Integrating knowledge from previous studies, students will identify and evaluate the appropriate response to practical situations that officers may be confronted with, including domestic disputes, suspect approach and tactical errors to avoid. A combination of classroom work and practical role-plays will be utilized.

This subject examines the scope of terrorist options in North America, identifies terrorist groups, determines how these groups operate and offers guidelines to security professionals on what they can do to mitigate this growing threat to our collective safety. PPI640 - Emergency and Disaster Planning
This subject will focus on the ability of an organization to respond to an emergency situation in a disciplined manner using pre-planned contingencies. While September 11th is perhaps the most graphic example in recent memory, the Quebec ice storm, SARS and the recent Anthrax-by-mail scares are examples of situations that required contingency planning. Dangerous situations such as Fire, Bomb Threats, Flooding, Emergency Medical Evacuation, Gas Leaks and Hazardous Chemical Spills are much more likely to occur on a frequent basis. Students will be given an overview of the principles of disaster management, and be expected to complete a comprehensive emergency response plan based on a selected area of threat.

PPI650 - Supervisory Skills
It is anticipated that the graduate of the program will prove him or herself qualified for promotion early in their career. Therefore, this subject will prepare the student to assume a first level supervisor's role in a private policing environment. Lectures, case studies and role-play inspired by the student's own work experience will provide the basis for instruction.
