Setting Up an ECE Childcare, Nursery School and After School

Recognition of Achievement

More Information

Overview

These six (6) workshops are designed to meet the needs of individuals who wish to operate a licensed childcare, nursery school or after-school program in the province of Ontario. Although not essential, Early Childhood Education knowledge is strongly recommended. The workshops provide detailed analysis of the requirements needed to apply for a childcare program license in Ontario as described in the Childcare and Early Years Act.

The curriculum focuses on licensing requirements municipally and provincially, human resources as it pertains to a childcare program, financing and marketing your program, and developing an Early Childhood Education curriculum and philosophy.

A Recognition of Achievement will be granted upon successful completion of all six workshops. However, workshops can be taken individually as well.

Career Opportunities

These workshops will assist students in understanding the requirements to open a licensed childcare program as required by the Ministry of Community and Social Services and the Ministry of Children and Youth Services in the province of Ontario.

Entry Requirements

It is preferable that students have knowledge of Early Childhood Education principles and beliefs. Although an ECE diploma is not required to open a licensed childcare program in Ontario, it is required to employ ECEs or their equivalents in a licensed program as room supervisors. Therefore the workshop presenters assume students do have the basic understanding of Early Childhood Education.

These workshops are designed to assist students in understanding the licensing requirements needed to open a childcare in Ontario. Attending these workshops does not guarantee that students' subsequent childcare program proposals will be accepted for licensing by the Ministry of Community and Social Services and the Ministry of Children and Youth Services in the province of Ontario.

ECD090 - Introduction to Setting Up Your Own Child Care Program, is a pre-requisite for all other workshops. Students may then pick individual workshops that they feel best apply to their needs.
